One of Marcuse's main concerns was the advent of totalitarianism, as Nazism it was a particularly traumatic issue for the Germans. After all, how was it possible to immerse the great part of a cultured people in a mass chimera that took years to intimidate the rest into despair? This research proposal intends, from the three main works Marcuse, address some central nodes about the invalidation of qualitative elements and subversives of the individual, which address the triumph of totalitarianism. The idea underlying is to inquire about Freud's concept of subject as fundamental for complement the Marxist theory, considering that Freud's pessimism and biologism they must be purified by Marx's historicism and utopianism.
