Discourse consciousness: a study on the relations between language and consciousness
Research abstract
We aim to investigate the nature, location and
function of discourse consciousness – concerning the decoding of semantic
information – as an auxiliary tool in the comprehension of orally or verbally uttered
sentences. Grounded on fundamental texts, we analyze an essential distinction
between the ability to follow instructions and to comprehend them, that is, the
distinction between syntactic and semantic understanding. From that, we question the
possibility of opening space to another type of consciousness - the linguistic one.
