Research title
The Sources of Equality: Moral Theory and Social Equality
Research abstract

The research aims to construct a moral basis for the normative premises endorsed by contemporary egalitarianism, conceived as collective actions oriented against unjust social hierarchies. The project pays particular attention to how the struggle against forms of social subordination is conceived by three contemporary egalitarian currents, namely democratic socialism, contemporary feminism, and African-American political theory. By fighting against socially instituted forms of depersonalization, each of these struggles has made an innovative contribution to the history of egalitarianism: (i) the struggle for the commodification of labour power and the defamiliarization of care, (ii) the struggle against female objectification in subordinate gender roles, and (iii) the struggle against the past-present (Du Bois) and social death (Patterson) engendered by structural racism.
