CREATIVITY IN SHAKESPEARE ACCORDING TO JOHANN GOTTFRIED HERDER
Research abstract
This PhD aims to investigate how Johann Gottfried Herder conceives creativity in William Shakespeare. The material basis of the research is the text Shakespeare (1773), where Herder elaborates a notion of modern spirit in Germany in the second half of the 18th century. The aim is to understand the meaning and consequences of the displacement of pietistic transcendence to the realm of subjectivity, in relation to the differences of Greek tragedy and modern drama, considering the process of formation of German nationality, history and language.
