IMMANUEL KANT: AN ANALYSIS BETWEEN THE TRANSCENDENTAL AND EMPIRICAL CONCEPTS IN THE CRITIQUE OF PURE REASON
Research abstract

The concept of the transcendental, in Immanuel Kant's "Critique of Pure Reason," is the way of knowing objects that need to be possible a priori. However, as the concept of the transcendental in Kant is ubiquitous, it is noticeable that throughout the book, the term "transcendental" acquires different contours depending on the faculty of the mind that uses it. As this work has a specific ambition, we will investigate the concept of the transcendental by contrasting it with the empirical. To do so, we will analyze paragraphs 13 to 27 of the "Critique of Pure Reason" (second edition) to examine the deduction of pure concepts of understanding and establish the foundation of a priori knowledge. We will highlight the differences between transcendental and empirical deductions, the distinction between pure and empirical concepts, and the difference between transcendental and empirical apperception. Additionally, we will explore the synthesis performed by the understanding as the basis for sensible syntheses. We believe that this research can assist those interested in understanding Kantian thought through his concepts.
