THE UNDERSTANDING OF FREEDOM FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF AUGUSTINE OF HIPPO
Research abstract

The objective of this work is to understand the concept of freedom, according to the perspective of Augustine of Hippo. Indeed, the issue of freedom is a relevant subject to think about in different circumstances and contexts. The hyponense is the philosopher, who, at first, articulates in the theocentric and philosophical scope, the notion of free will, through free will, whose possibility of living authentic freedom permeates the horizon of Divine Grace. It is interesting to note, in Augustine's writings, the description of a potentialized freedom, both for good and for evil. According to Doutor da Graça, this intrinsic characteristic in the act of human creation is not a reason to blame God, due to the existence of evil in the world, considering that the possibility of sin is characteristic of freedom, that is, to make choices that may deny what intimately characterized it. Therefore, humanity is endowed with free will. In this way, the Augustinian ethics aims to reframe the evangelical principles, rescue the meaning of freedom and a happy life. This ethic follows the parameters of an agape, unconditional love for God and neighbor.
