DYSTOPIAN TIMES: THE GENESIS OF "ALIENATION" CONCEPT IN HANNAH ARENDT THINKING
Research abstract

This research has as its central goal the investigation on the origins of the “alienation” concept in Hannah Arendt´s thinking as from her seminal work “The human condition”. According to Arendt (2016), alienation is the reason of human condition and contains in its meaning two essential aspects which would be: the escape of humankind to space, due to the coming of the special exploration; and the loophole to itself, as a straight consequence of modern era. Alienation takes part in several aspects of human life and is diametrically related to the technical advances. Arendt, in this sense, comes up with a historical investigation over the alienation throughout history in order to find its influences in humankind. When someone is alienated from the world, it is absent of this same world, as so, it is indeed an anti-political exercise, once you are alone; its nature is conscious or unconscious. The triumphs of the Animal Laborans and the Homo Faber in modernity have imposed a strong defeat to the Vita Contemplative, work has assumed the centrality over social life, and humans work for the needs of life.
