DIVERGENT FORMS OF LIFE: AN ANALYSIS OF THE IMPLICATIONS OF LUDWIG WITTGENSTEIN'S ASPEKTBLINDHEIT AND LEBENSFORM CONCEPTS IN THE CONTEMPORARY DEBATE ON AUTISM
Research abstract

The present project consists of a research proposal regarding the use of the term "disability" to refer to individuals on the Autism Spectrum, considering the notions of Lebensform and Aspektblindheit from Wittgenstein's work, for a potential critique of the term. The research will encompass both scientific and philosophical works, exploring the intersection between science and the philosophy of language. To achieve this, I will present the treatment of relevant concepts for the study in works such as The Blue and Brown Book (1935), Philosophische Untersuchungen (1953), Zettel (1967), Über Gewißheit (1969), and Bemerkungen über die Philosophie der Psychiologie (1980) by Wittgenstein. Subsequently, I will discuss the relationships between the pertinent concepts in these works and the works of specialized scholars in both philosophy and psychology. In conclusion, I will critically evaluate the presented and discussed content, seeking to corroborate my hypothesis and, in the closing of the project, establish the argument that autism is not a disability but rather a divergent form of life.
