MOVING BEYOND HEGEL:THE NEED TO RETHINK UNIVERSALS OF HUMANITY
Research abstract

In this Project, I present a path of making explicit and reflecting on a supposed structure of colonial oppression present in Hegel's History of Philosophy, within his commentaries on the African continent. In addition, it seeks to articulate Frantz Fanon's thought as an important counterpoint to the desire for universalism in Hegelian philosophy. The research aim of this project is a double reflexive task that allows us both to understand the way of oppression articulated by Hegel as a strategy to defend his philosophical system, and to critique the concepts of universality and humanity therein, in addition to rethinking other ways of conceiving these concepts. The methodology consists both in the analysis and critical commentary of the texts worked on, and in the incorporation of what is understood as the decolonial method, which is the deconstruction of classical concepts articulated by philosophy that are often presented as inherent to scientific research. As a result, it is expected to create impact in decolonial studies and to establish dialogue with the increasingly broad debate regarding the relationship of racism with the philosophical canon.
