HEGEL AND CLASSICAL SCULPTURE ON AESTHETICS: THE IDEAL FIGURE OF SPIRIT EMBODIED IN MATTER.
Research abstract

This project is about classical sculpture as the perfect unity between the Form, the Idea and the Content of the spirit according to Hegel on Aesthetics. The problematic revolves around the understanding of the meaning of works of art when it comes to conceiving the beautiful idea of the spirit from its concrete forms, but mainly, the incorporation of this idea in the hard, cold and inert matter of classical statuary. Of the theses that surround this project, the predominance of the intelligible over the sensible in aesthetic experience stands out in the foreground; secondly, Hegel's assertion that sight and hearing are the only senses that allow contemplation, or theoretical reflection. The aim is to reflect on these theses from Hegel's "System of the Particular Arts" (CE, vol. III, p. 13 ff.), but also on the theoretical, historical and critical unfolding of classical sculpture ("Sculpture"; CE, ibid. p. 101 ff.) based on the publications of Sulzer, Winckelmann, Herder, Schlegel and Schelling on the subject.
