My research project for my master's degree in Philosophy at USP analyzes the issue of evil in the philosophy of Augustine of Hippo, focusing on the tension between free will and will. Based on Augustinian works, I will investigate how Augustine develops his conception of evil, reflecting on human freedom and moral responsibility in the face of evil in the world. I examine the intersection between freedom of choice (free will) and the will of the individual, questioning how human action articulates with the divine will and the presence of evil in the universe. The research is mainly based on Confessions, The City of God, De libero arbitrio and De natura boni, with the aim of understanding Augustine's resolution to the contradiction between human freedom and the origin of evil, a central theme in both Medieval Philosophy as in contemporary Philosophy.
