J.-K. Huysmans' utopia and the conversion through art
Research abstract

This is a research project on Aesthetics and Philosophy of Art that aims to deepen the late work by French writer J.-K. HUYSMANS, more specifically in the books “A path”, “The Cathedral” and “The Oblate”, a trilogy that details the journey of the author's double (Durtal), towards religious conversion that will only be possible through mobilization of artistic genres situated in the Medieval Era – Gothic architecture and statuary, painting of the primitives, the Gregorian chant – and through the use of appropriate language for the mobilization of such symbols. Such historical retreat rescues a true utopia located in the past, as a decadent effort to refuse the present and reaffirm the values of a previous period.
