Interactions between values and scientific activities of neuroenhancement technologies
Research abstract

This research project aims to analyze the interactions between values and scientific activities of neuroenhancement neurotechnologies. Neuroenhancement is part of the human enhancement field and is defined as the use of different strategies and technologies that aim to expand cognitive capabilities in non-pathological situations. This improvement can be achieved using different types of technologies, such as pharmacological technologies, with “smart drugs”, such as methylphenidate, and non-pharmacological technologies, such as brain implants (Brain-computer Interfaces). To analyze the values involved in scientific activities that study these neurotechnologies, an exploratory and qualitative literature review is being conducted. Up to now, the study has been focused out on different perspectives around the dichotomy of fact and value, with an emphasis on the study of the value of nature control and studies related to feminist epistemologies in science. Furthermore, a review of empirical studies on the topic was also carried out. . In the next stage of the research, an analysis of these values will be carried out with an emphasis on the model proposed by the philosopher Hugh Lacey.
