Research title
SOCRATES’ DIVINE SIGN (DAIMONION)
Research abstract

This research aims to investigate the possible meanings of the so-called numinous sign (daimónion) of Socrates, the philosopher, in the context of the Platonic dialogues, especially the trilogy about his trial and sentencing to death by poisoning. Inevitably, the research must also provide more detailed considerations and hypotheses about the reasons why Socrates was accused, since Plato's character lists the mention of his daimonion as one of the reasons why he is accused of promoting religious innovations and creating new gods, attitudes considered impious and an attack on Athenian law.
