Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics presents happiness (eudaimonia) as a man’s end (telos) which expresses the best way of living according to virtue. Then, on the one hand, the best way of living is the philosophical one, reflecting on theoretical objects, on the other hand, political life would bring second-place happiness. Recent feedback from the qualification exam prompted a reevaluation of our investigation, leading us to the central question: what is the role of political life in his philosophy? According to our research, Aristotle’s Politics is the key to answering this problem. Only through political theory, can Aristotle contemplate the aims of political constitutions, how we can develop citizens’ virtues, and which political regimes would best achieve the ideal way of life and which one is.
