Research title
Tretyakov: the author as producer
Research abstract

This research addresses the trajectory of Soviet writer, theorist and playwright Sergei Tretyakov. We will address the foundations of his aesthetic formulations, including references to Russian futurism, constructivism and productivism. We will analyze his theoretical assumptions mainly through his publications in the Left Front of the Arts – LEF through its magazine. The theoretical elaboration of the Soviet avant-garde organized around the LEF combined the productive, organizational, theoretical and pedagogical dimensions. The articulation between these aspects of the aesthetic project of the Soviet avant-garde explains its position of hegemony in the cultural and aesthetic field in the Soviet Union in the 1920s. We will also address Tretyakov's artistic production in Proletkult, especially his work with Sergei Eisenstein. Another important dimension of his work were the productions made in partnership with Meyerhold, mainly with the play I Want a Son, which we will also analyze. Finally, we will also address the relations established between the Soviet and German avant-gardes, for which Tretyakov played a central role, especially in his relationship with Brecht and Benjamin.
