The objective of this research is to investigate the construction of self-determination of the black subject based on the historical and political movement that constructed the idea of race, namely, colonialism. To arrive at the self-determination of this subject, we will, in the first moment, analyze the formation of race, within the context of colonization, slavery and capitalism, having as our main support the first chapters of the book Critique of Black Reason by the Cameroonian philosopher and historian Achille Mbembe. In a second moment, to explore the construction of this racialized subject in his movement towards self-determination, we will, through Frantz Fanon, investigate the formation of the dual and split character of this subject divided between assimilation and emancipation. The continuation of these chapters is due to the fact that Mbembe is an assiduous reader of Fanon's theory, and, therefore, carries in his writing concepts and elements that are part of the theory of the Martinican philosopher.
