Scientific Representation: the axiology of science between realisms and anti-realisms
Research abstract

Although realists and antirealists share concerns about scientific research, the idea that the goal of science is the search for or approximation of truth must be questioned both philosophically and practically. To address this, the views of van Fraassen and Laudan are presented, showing that realist objectives do not adequately explain scientific dynamics. Van Fraassen proposes constructive empiricism, focusing on the empirical adequacy of theories. Laudan advocates pragmatic values based on problem-solving. Therefore, it is necessary to adopt a pluralistic axiological framework, recognizing values as pragmatic criteria rather than universal rules, fostering a more practical perspective on contemporary science.
