Research title
ART AND PSYCHOANALYSIS IN THE WORK OF THEODOR W. ADORNO: AN ANALYSIS THROUGH THE CONCEPT OF NEGATIVITY
Research abstract

This research aims to connect adornian concepts on Art and Psychoanalysis to the concept of negativity, presenting them as ideas which point to an emancipatory horizon concerning the individual being, since they put at stake any conception of individual experience which may be built upon convergence with the so-claimed social totality of the administered world. Our starting point is the possibility of understanding both Art and Psychoanalysis as expressions of negativity in a world where the individual being is subdued to a falsely coherent totality, under the imperative of calculation -- which contributes to the reification of discursive language and to the reduction of its expressive potential. The similarities and differences between Art and Psychoanalysis are to be investigated in order to bring a perspective which comprehends both as views which point to an emancipatory horizon, in comparison to daily practices and language, which perpetuate the subsumption of the individual being, both consciously and unconsciously, to a totality which is, in its turn, subject to trade and its specific rationality.
