The low presence of women in academic philosophy is a phenomenon that affects the area at all stages of higher education. The Perfect Storm model proposes that, in philosophy, different kinds of gender discrimination that are operative throughout society become a "perfect storm" as they converge, interact and intensify. For this reason, this project aims to investigate the effects of gender on the social and institutional relations established in philosophy courses, specifically in the Department of Philosophy at the University of São Paulo (DF/FFLCH/USP). The main object of research will be gender schemas, i.e. unconscious beliefs about masculinity and femininity that condition perceptions and normative expectations about men and women. The initial hypothesis is that there is an antagonism between the schematic norms of femininity and the characteristics seen as necessary for academic success. The aim, therefore, is to analyze the binary, schematic and normative oppositions in the dynamics established in the course, seeking to reflect on how they converge and interact in the DF/FFLCH/USP, and how they can intensify gender inequality in this environment.
