Research title
THE DIVINE SIGN (DAIMONION) OF SOCRATES
Research abstract
This research intends to investigate the possible meanings of the so-called numinous sign (daimonion) of Socrates, the philosopher, in the context of the Platonic dialogues, especially the trilogy about his trial and death sentence by poisoning. Inevitably, the research must also bring considerations and better hypotheses about the reasons why Socrates was accused, since Plato's character lists the mention of his daimonion as one of the reasons why he is accused of promoting religious innovations and creating new gods, behavior considered irreligious and attacks on Athenian law.
