Research title
INTEGRATED INDIVIDUAL AND THE RISE OF TOTALITARISM IN HERBERT MARCUSE.
Research abstract

One of Marcuse’s main concerns was the rise of totalitarianism, so nazism was a particularly traumatic issue for Germans. After all, how was it possible to plunge a large part of a cultured people into mass chimera that took years to intimidate the rest to despair? This research proposal intends, from the three main books of Marcuse, to approach some central knots about the invalidation of the qualitative and subversive elements of the individual, which address the triunph of totalitarianism. The underlying idea is to inquire about Freud’s concept of the subject as fundamental to complement marxista theory, considering that Freud’s pessimism and biologismo must be purified by Marx’s historicism and utopianism.
