As a field of knowledge, psychology occupies an uncomfortable position regarding its definitions of object, methodology and criteria of scientificity. Many different interpretations of its constitution have been developed, and distinct movements in favor either of unity or theoretical diversity have emerged. We seek to contribute to this discussion by taking perspectival realism into account, a proposal of philosophy of science that presents itself as a middle ground between objectivist realism and relativism. Considering the possibilities and limitations of this dialogue, and also highlighting the perspectivist tendencies identified in the psychological field itself, we aim to find ways for psychology to achieve an epistemology that is appropriate to its nature, capable of exploring the potential of the plurality of psychological studies without losing commitment to critical knowledge.
