THE RATIONALISM AND ROMANTICISM OF JOHN STUART MILL
Research abstract
Our objective is to analyze how John Stuart Mill’s political and moral philosophy creates a tension between Enlightenment and Romantic conceptions by articulating the authenticity of human agency with an expanded notion of morality. Along this path, the specific objectives are: (a) to investigate how rationalist, romantic, and aesthetic elements support Mill’s defense of individual liberty and character formation
