This research proposes to analyze Shakespeare's presence in Hegelian aesthetics. His dramas appear in Hegel's philosophy as one of the main examples of modern art, an art marked by a predominant subjectivity that dissolves artistic material in favor of an interior that seeks to portray only itself. In this analysis, I will consider Shakespeare's insertion into the broader system of Hegel's philosophy. I will study Hegel's understanding of Shakespeare: an understanding of the content of each play Hegel discussed, of the philosopher's considerations on dramatic form, and as an understanding embedded in and influenced by a particular historical and cultural movement of Hegel's time that placed Shakespeare at the center of German and European culture.
