Our project seeks to investigate, drawing on Merleau-Ponty's mature ontology, the notion of the artistic imaginary as a constant recognition and meaningful refounding of the world. We propose that art is not reducible to an escape from reality but rather deepens the shared world as a reunion with the real, by disclosing through expressivity and intercorporeality the invisible and latent dimension of being. By intertwining the actual and the imaginary within the same flesh of the world, art is displaced beyond representation: in manifesting itself as both presence and absence, the imaginary opens up new perceptual sights and resignifications of the world. By exploring the intrinsic ambiguity of being, this research aims to show how the experience of the artistic imaginary reestablishes the bond between subject and world through the symbolic dimension.
