This research proposes the formulation of an ontology of the work of art in Jean-Paul Sartre, structured around the category of being-for-others. Secondary literature rarely articulates, in a systematic way, Sartre’s ontological texts with his aesthetic and literary writings, and when it does, it privileges the notion of engagement. Our hypothesis, however, is that the concepts of generosity and authenticity, as outlined in the Cahiers Pour Une Morale, constitute the most fundamental axis for understanding the aesthetic phenomenon and its intersubjective structure.
