ADORNO'S METACRITIQUE OF PRACTICAL REASON AND THE QUESTION OF NORMATIVITY
Research abstract

This project investigates a possible link between the model “Freedom: towards a metacritique of practical reason” in Theodor W. Adorno’s Negative dialectics and the debate concerning the existence of a normative grounding in Adorno’s work. In particular, it is asked whether the truth content that Adorno finds in his reading of the concept of freedom in Kant’s moral philosophy should be read as having some normative implications and, if so, what is it. With this in view, the aims here are a revision of the literature around the normative debate concerning Adorno, a reconstruction of the interpenetration of freedom and unfreedom and a recuperation of the truth content that Adorno nonetheless extracts thereof, connecting it to the initial normative discussion. With this, the hope is to contribute to the open question that is the debate surrounding how Adorno treats normativity in his work.
