Research title
Dreams in Adorno: a study of the Traumprotokolle
Research abstract

The purpose of this research is to make an analysis of Theodor Adorno’s dreams. This means we are going to thoroughly read his posthumous book, the Traumprotokolle, in which we can see his dream notes from 1934 to 1969, a few months before his death. This perusal will be lead in light of an investigation into the statute of dreams in his philosophical works. With that, we intend to probe the reasons that led the philosopher to choose this deformed version of an account of himself. As we make an explanation about the importance of Freud’s works and the unconscious experiences to the theoretical formulations of Adorno, and as we emphasize the different passagens in which he talks more explicitly about dreams in his work, we will move on to an analysis of his raw dreams. We will propose a reading hypothesis in which it is possible to glimpse within the dream an object of social criticism, and for that purpose, we will not dismiss a psychoanalytic interpretation that, passing through Adorno's pen, also opens space for the material and objective dimension - the historical-social - of apparently senseless experiences of a dream.
