Research title
Leonardo Bruni and Nicolau Maquiavel, comparative readings on the histories of Florence: the Ordinances of Justice and the revolt of the ciompi
Research abstract

Leonardo Bruni's History of the Florentine People, written in the 15th, is an important source for other stories of the city that would be written in the following centuries. One of the most outstanding is the History of Florence, by Machiavelli, from the 16th century. Based on the analysis of some of the most important episodes of Bruni's work - the Ordinances of Justice and the revolt of the ciompi -, the present research seeks to highlight some central concepts for the republican tradition and to identify the influences of some important chroniclers of the 13th and 14t in the work of Bruni. Based on these analyzes, we tried to explain the possible points of support of Machiavelli in the Brunian work for the writing of his History of Florence and some of his criticisms of Bruni's view.
