The goal of the present work is to answer the question contained in its title: what is first philosophy according to book Lambda of Aristotle’s Metaphysics? In the first chapter I will try to contextualize book Lambda in the whole of the Metaphysics, considering if this investigation is the continuity of a preceding investigation or the beginning of a new one. In chapter II I will present support for this reading hypothesis, showing that Lambda’s investigation demonstrates the existence of a principle shared by sensible and unmovable substance. At the third and last chapter I will support a “hypothetical reading” of Lambda 1’s final lines. I believe that Lambda’s investigation is an investigation of first philosophy because it aims to know “all things”, that is, “the totality of things”.
