Current Research

The forms of the invention
This research is divided into two parts: I) Invention and Form: To study how the connection between invention and form occurs in the seventeenth century, from the philosophy of Bacon, and especially from Shaftesbury, on. We aim to question to which extent “invention” and “form” are important for understanding what man is and what he produces concretely or symbolically, individually or collectively. 2) Word and invention: Heuristics and language in eighteenth and nineteenth-century Germany. Several authors will be studied (Sulzer, Herder, Moritz, Goethe, Kant, Schleiermacher etc.) who conceived language as a heuristic medium or as a form of ‘ars inveniendi’.
