HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT AND LOGICAL SYSTEM: A STUDY ON MARX’S CONCEPTION OF HISTORY
Research abstract

The objective of the research is investigate the Marxian conception of history present in Capital. The problem we intend to address resides in the relation between the economic laws of the capitalist mode of production and social and political praxis. In an attempt to overcome both the economicist and the voluntarist trends that emerged in the 20th century - which emphasize or the prevalence of economics over politics, or the opposite -, we'll try to demonstrate how the real relationship between the economic and the extra-economic spheres of social life is exposed, in Capital, through the distinction between two discursive levels : the logical, which deals with the cyclical movement of capital, and the historical, which deals with the historical conditions of capitalism and the concrete social dynamics that accompany its development. However, more than just pointing out the difference between such levels, our intention is to investigate how they are constantly intertwined throughout the exhibition of Capital, thus showing how economic laws and politics, law, culture, etc., determine each other reciprocally in a dialectic of continuity and rupture, necessity and contingency
