This doctorate research uses as primordial source of its inquiries the romance of Karl Philipp Moritz (1756-1793), Anton Reiser, published in the 17th century. The story of the boy Anton, from childhood to early adult age, leads the reader to a range of inquiries, which are also related to other works by the same author. In order to approach them, three leading topics are chosen: the first approaches the individual development and subjectivity constitution question; the second engages into answering what kind of romance is born along with the book, what relation there is between narration and experience in it; and the third one aims at relating romance and the author´s esthetic theory and language. The conjugated thought of such topics might provide another answer to the Kantian question ‘what is the man?’.
