Present study takes the expression “point of view” (Gesichtspunkt) of Karl Philipp Moritz and transforms it into his work reading instrument. The purpose is showing, in three points of view (empirical psychology, psychological novel, and esthetics), his understanding of subjectivity.
Not only the variation of points of view is a criticism to unilaterality and narrowing of the look, but also ends a discreet ascent motion. Empirical psychology, due to its primordial function (collecting patient report), is rooted in the individual. Psychological novel starts from the individual and remains focused on him/her, nevertheless the reader’s view is expanded by the narrator’s activity. Esthetics is the pedagogy of the look: it teaches man to find the point of view in the work of art, and within such exercise, it is also possible to reach a synoptic view on human existence.
