Research title
Crisis and freedom: a study on the forms of political representation in Hegel's philosophy
Research abstract

The first objective of the study is to investigate Hegel's critiques, especially in Elements of the Philosophy of Right, of the two unilateral models of freedom: the first, based on the indeterminate character of the will, and the second, grounded in its determined character. The analysis of these criticisms should show us how, when absolutized by the agents of social life as guidelines for political action, they lead to crises arising from a strong contradiction between freedom and institutions. To this end, we sought to understand how these models, which could be called "pathological", are dysfunctionally related to a fundamental political concept: that of political representation. This is because, as we intend to highlight, these forms of freedom do not only affect the level of individual self-relationship, but also take shape in certain practical and institutional settings. These, in their turn, retroact on the conceptual misunderstandings that support them. With this circular model, the research aims to broaden the modes of recognition in Hegelian philosophy beyond the realm of intersubjectivity, including, above all, the type of demand addressed to institutions. Therefore, still guided by the criterion of political representation, we will examine how a rational model of freedom can operate at the center of the Hegelian political architecture, combining social and political freedom, or particular and universal interests. The conceptual analysis of the model, based on the corporate institutions of civil society, will be our second objective, in which we will proceed to examine the assumptions, justifications, diagnoses and Hegelian defense of a representative structure by corporations.
