Research title
Augustine and the Word: Uses and Purposes of Signs in the Philosophy of Language of Augustine of Hippo
Research abstract
Starting from the problem of the communication of souls presented in the work De Magistro, this research aims to investigate the usefulness of words (signs) - since Augustine's conclusion is that the teaching of truth is exclusively the responsibility of Christ, the Inner Master. Furthermore, the research will seek to highlight the embryonic ideas of the usefullness of signs in teaching in the work De Magistro (namely, warning who presumes volition and results in love) in relation to his later work De doctrina christiana, which deals with the interpretation of signs in the Scriptures. Based on what has been exposed, I present a general systematization of Augustinian semiology.
