Memory aesthetics and policies: archive and testimony in the work of Christian Boltanski and Doris Salcedo
Research abstract

In the last decades, memory has been one of the central cultural and political concerns of western societies. This diagnosis, common to several authors, is derived from a series of apparitions from the past in retro fashions and utensils, nostalgic films, monuments, as well as in museum impetus that reenact barbarism in order to commercialize the trauma. Nonetheless, simultaneously, a number of artists have undertaken a work to perlaborate the past, in the key of historical awareness, opposing the spectacularization and simulation of memory. This research, therefore, proposes to investigate the status that memory acquires in this new art of remembrance based on the analysis of works by Christian Boltanski, Doris Salcedo and Rosangela Rennó, all of them, among archives and testimonies.
