Augustine was a man of intense political activity. In his episcopal activity, Augustine was involved in several controversies. In this study, we'll seek to explore some of these discussions, based on the analysis of the notions of the divine law and the human law. In combating manicheism, paganism and donatism, Augustine deals with the theme of the two laws several times, engendering a political discussion based on the concepts of correctio and cohercitio. Is it possible that there's a final augustinian position on the use of coercion for charitable correction? Trying to answer this question, we will analyze the relationship between the divine law and the human law. Our aim is to clarify some points of the so-called Augustinian quarrels and, in addition, to propose a discussion on contemporary political Augustinianism.
