Justice, equality, and community: J.-J. Rousseau and the principles of distributive justice
Research abstract

The principles of the idea of distributive justice date back to at least the 18th century. The aim of this thesis is to go through the work of J.-J. Rousseau in search of elements that corroborate the formation of this concept from the perspective of three fundamental notions: justice, equality and community. By contrasting his thought with that of some thinkers of his time, we can see that there is a central concern with the problem of extreme inequality established in societies and, in this sense, there is a consistent orientation towards resolving the causes and effects of an unjust distribution of property and wealth. Thus, Rousseau’s work presents a perennial reflection on justice and the need for a fair distribution.
