Research title
The ether as a multiform theme in the history of scientific ideas, before and after the theory of relativity: epistemological perspectives.
Research abstract

The disappearance of the concept of ether as an object of study in the natural sciences is mostly attributed to Einstein's theory of special relativity. However, an epistemological analysis in the light of Bachelard's ideas reveals an alternative narrative. The dissertation re-evaluates Einstein's criticisms of the ether and his post-1920 considerations, suggesting the interpretation of the "relativistic ether". The dissertation also examined the history of the concept, highlighting its resilience and mutability over time. Emphasising the relevance of studying the concept for both philosophy and science.
