This dissertation examines the concept of ideology present in the manuscripts of The German Ideology based on the relationship between ideological representations and the reality of productive relations proposed by Marx and Engels' critique of ideology. In this examination, we review the history of editions of the manuscripts of The German Ideology in view of the predominance of the critical-philological position in the most recent discussion on the establishment and status of Marx and Engels' texts, according to which the manuscripts were nothing more than a "collaborative laboratory". In a joint reading of chapter "III. Saint. Max" and the manuscripts of "I. Feuerbach", we argue in favor of the idea that the notion of inversion constitutes, in both chapters, the center of the authors' understanding of the ideological phenomenon: ideology inverts reality to the extent that reality itself contains an inversion, namely the alienation of social production. In this context, we understand that Stirner's philosophy is an index for Marx and Engels to describe German backwardness and the condition that allows German philosophy to become more universal.
